Otis Redding sings about doing nothing better than anyone, but he sure doesn't sound happy about it. Neither should we. "Wastin' time" means that Otis is not using his resources to their full potential. By being unemployed, despite looking all over the country for work, there is less production taking place. That's a bad thing for everyone.
