Verve, "Bitter Sweet Symphony"

The lyrics are a sombre look at the listlessness and dissatisfaction of everyday life: “You're a slave to money, then you die.” The title of this song is a metaphor for the alienation of life. Richard Ashcroft wrote this song after watching his father “work 9 to 5” his entire life, die suddenly of a brain haemorrhage and achieve nothing. Are we capable of adjusting to change?
